go to different gynecologist since this one keeps misdiagnosing you. you obviously have more than infection and should be checked by someone more capable. good luck :)you can check in "Discharge Evaluation" and in "Vaginal Itching" - all symptoms are very important for diagnostic - see in:

Try finding an older OB-GYN Doctor; pesaries are better handled by the older docs.
A hysterectomy would solve the prolapse, but often not the urinary incontinence.
Try the pesary first.

My best wishes, really feel for you and mom.She needs that or maybe a bladder tacking surgery. Bladder tack can be done with less anesthesia so that might be the best.I would reccomend taking the original one to a more experienced doctor. At 89 I would not think surgery would be a great option even if she would be a surgical canidate. Perhaps talk to the original gyn and see if he has any suggestions or would be willing to try placing it again.
Good luck.Your poor mother! She needs to find a new doctor who is able to insert the pessary ring properly, it needs to be the right size too. A hysterectomy will get rid of the prolapsed uterus but if she's having urinary problems as well (in addition to the prolapse and not part of it) that would be an additional procedure. She needs to find a nice doctor she feels comfortable with, who can talk her through her options. As for the hysterectomy, depends which way it's done. They can remove the uterus vaginally (with the help of keyhole incisions in the abdomen) which has a faster recovery time than removing it through a large incision in the abdomen. It really depends on what is suitable for your mother, and a good doctor will be able to assess her and let her know her options. Best of luck.
