honey there is always a chance. A year ago I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycysteric ovarian syndrome). In other words, my eggs were not maturing and coming out of my ovaries, just making cysts on the outside. My gyno told me I couldnt have kids and should just be on birth control to help regulate my periods as they were always irratic. A year later, I became pregnant with twins when I switched my birth controls. The new one gave me just enough of the hormone I wasnt producing to make my eggs mature and become fertilized. Its always possible.

If your mother is so closed-mouth about female reproduction its a good thing you're going to the doctor!
Preparation for the exam is simple. Do NOT douche (if you do), and do not go if you've had your period within the last week. If you're sexually active, do NOT have sex within 72 hours of the exam. Otherwise, just bathe as you normally would. And remember to relax. Nothing to it!
Also, make a list of ALL your questions before you go, so you can ask the doctor and not forget something.
As for your uterine issues, that is definitely something to discuss with your doctor. While it often IS genetic, there's always a chance that it can skip people or generations. Clearly its not that big a deal in your family, as you've talked about at least two generations having the condition, and they've obviously reproduced.
