Does an Adominal Hysterectomy recovery feel like Cesarean recovery?

Does an Adominal Hysterectomy recovery feel like Cesarean recovery?
Best answer:
I have cared for both types of procedures, and they are nowhere the same. In intensity or time of healing. They rarely do abdominal hysterectomy's any more usually laparoscopic.I have had an abdominal hysty. I also had a bladder suspension and a anal wall repair, so my procedure was a little more involved. I spend 4 or 5 days in the hospital and 4 days at home and was back to work after that. It was a lot easier than being cut open. I have also had a c-section and other surgeries. You will heal faster and be back on your feet quicker. I am so glad I had a hysty. I should have done it years prior. And had I known I would feel so much better, I would have not waited so long. Good luck.I had an abdominal hysterectomy in July and I've never felt better! The first week of recovery was tough, but once you get through post op day one, it's smooth sailing. The hospital staff will do a great job managing your pain. Remember that it is your job to let them know how much pain you are feeling. Most hospitals use a chart - like on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being painless and 10 being unbearable.

I never had a c-section, so I can't compare. I do know that a lot of doctors still do abdominal hysterectomies - especially if there are any abnormalities involved like fibroids, endometriosis or excessive scar tissue.

I'm so glad I had mine. I only wish I'd done it years ago. There is a great site for hyst information as well as support. It's wonderful! There are lots of discussion forums to discuss every aspect of having a hysterectomy. www.hystersisters.com

Better days are ahead for you :):):)

Recovery time from a Hysterectomy for a 52 year old?
Best answer:
It can take longer due to her age. You didn't say how it was done, abdominal? Vaginal? Laproscopic? That also plays a big factor in the healing process. As a surgical nurse she isn't doing herself any favors by laying around. She should be up taking light walks.Good Luck!!I had a hysterectomy and salpingo oophorectomy on April 23rd this year and was back to work a week later. It depends on the type of work your mom does, the physical aspect of it. It depends on the woman, also.

The best thing she can do is to walk, that will help ease some of the discomfort (and probably gas?) she has. I know it is slow and go for her, bless her heart, but give her about a week or so. Just make sure she does no exert herself.

I hope she feels better soon! Each Gal's recovery time is different. It does take almost 6 weeks to feel really good most of us gals do get fatigued very easy.

I was 49 when I had my total abdominal hysterectomy. I was in the hospital two nights. I went home to care for myself. The second night home I put together a little dinner...most of it pre-cooked. I was driving in a week. .....I am NOT the norm. My aunt was in bed almost two weeks another gal friend the same…most gals hurt…a pillow held close to the tummy when up and around helps…

Most all the gals I have talked with have some difficulty getting around for the first few day...but it is sooo important to move...but she does need to listen to her body. I am not sure what pain meds her doctor gave her but sometimes these make us really sleepy...and keeps us from getting up and moving...

52 is not old...but it has only been a few days since her major surgery....her body has been through a lot...and she is still healing. Give her a bit more time.

I wish her well...

www.gyn-gals.orgThe book answer is 6 weeks but a big part of recovery depends on her state of mind and how she felt about having the surgery. If she is a positive person she will heal and recover alot quicker than if she is a negative person. I am 51 years old and just had a total hyster (abdominal) on 8/17/07. (removed uterus, tubes, and ovaries). I had alot of endometriosis and fibroids so they had to take it all....left cervix intact. I was released from the hospital on Sun 8/19 and went back to work part time on Tues 8/21 because I felt good, just took it easy, and then worked part time again on Thurs 8/24, stayed home and laid low on Friday and the weekend. They put a patch on me at the hospital and I am taking premarin 45 (pill) everyday now. Doesn't she have any pain pills from her dr?? She needs to get up and move around to get everything going again. Again, her recovery depends alot on her mood and what type of person she is....the more positive she is the faster she will heal. She should be up and around by now. I am very physically active and I think that helped me. If anything, does she have a good relationship with her dr. that she could call him and tell him what is going on?
