Side effects of hysterectomy?

Side effects of hysterectomy?
Best answer:
If you keep your ovaries then you may not notice any symptoms. If you have the ovaries removed then there are side effects. Some people experience more than others. Here is a list of the most frequent ones: Hot flashes, weight gain, mood swings, vaginal dryness
Hormones help the symptoms but it makes you gain weight. If you have breast cancer in your family you may not be able to take hormones. Talk to your physician about your options. The pros are that you will not have to worry about a period or pregnancy.I can speak to this both professionally and personally. I am a nurse who has worked in gynecological surgery AND I had a hysterectomy about 9 years ago.

Personally, I can honestly say it was the best decision I ever made. I had been having a number of subtle symptoms that I had just written off to old age (LOL!). The hysterectomy was recommended because of a mass on one of my ovaries... due to endometriosis (but we didn't know that then).

Postoperatively I had surprisingly little pain that was easily managed by the morphine drip for the first 24 hours and then oral hydrocodone afterward. In fact, I never even finished the first bottle of pain meds I took home from the hospital. I was up and walking the next day. When I went home I needed a little nap in the afternoons (which is not the norm for me) for about the first week, but beyond that I felt quite normal. In fact, my husband kept fussing at me for trying to do too much too soon. I was not supposed to lift anything over 10 pounds or drive for the first month. I had staples that were removed at about the 2 week period. The incision was just along the top of the pubic bone so not visible for most swimming suits and stuff.

I guess the only thing that was a little negative was the hormone fluctuations. Since my ovaries were removed, I went through a period of adjustment where I was kind of emotional... even though the doctor immediately put me on bioidentical hormones (much better than Premarin and it's equivalent, BTW). That probably lasted about a month or so and then I pretty much adjusted to the hormone therapy and everything was fine.

And remember all those little "getting old" symptoms I had... they totally went away. I used to get migraines... gone. I have a bad back... it's even a bit better. Pelvic congestion, intestinal issues, aching, etc., all gone. And of course, no period... Yeah!

Hope that helps.

What side effects does a particle hysterectomy have on your sex drive? I will be keeping my ovaries. ?
Best answer:
You shouldn't notice any changes at all, the ovaries are conducive to hormones, removing the uterus has little effect.Your sex drive shouldn't change because you are keeping your hormones. I had the same thing done 7 years ago.The first thing you need to do is figure out why your sex drive is low and try to help get it back. I was in your situation and it's not fun without being horny and feeling in the mood when needed. I also felt like my orgasms (if I would even get one) were really weak. Probably because of my sex drive.

However, I tried exercising and dieting but nothing seemed to be working. I thought I was screwed. I then found something just as amazing as the vibrator.

My friend at work told me about this stuff she took to raise her sex drive. It was a natural herbal supplement and was I lucky to of found it. Theres no side effects and the sex drive is just tremendous along with orgasms that are blasting. The stuff is called Hersolution pills. At the time I saved money on them at herenhancement.com

What I did was tried out for 3 months and that was really it. I found taking them every other day or so was the best to stretch it out. After the months were up, I was back to normal with a beating sex drive and my orgasm strength in increased so much.

Well good luck and I hope this helps.
